Why I Don't Watch "Beauty and the Beast" Anymore

No no, I don't mean the Disney one. Chill.
No, this is another case of "one thing on Netflix led to another". Kind of like the Youtube suggestion bar. Watch one Marvel HISHI video and pretty soon you end up watching half an hour of kitten Vines. Still haven't figured that one out.

No, don't get me wrong, I love Beauty and the Beast. I've read over half a dozen versions of it, and they're all really different from the Disney version: the Beast isn't mean to her. I understand that Disney is/was didactic in nature, teaching virtues and such, so Belle's kindness and patience really had to have a stark contrast. I understand and respect that, because their relationship became a healthy one.

Enter the 1980's TV show Beauty and the Beast. Extremely whimsical, but pretty sweet. Obviously there's drama, and to be honest, it does seem to be pretty circular and predictable at times, but it's not too bad.
I haven't finished it, but as far as I can tell, there's never a reason given for the Beast's condition.
Okay...

Now, there's the Netflix suggestions.
Because I'd been watching the old one, it figured I'd like to watch the new one.
Well, they give a reason for the condition, the acting is way better, everything as a whole is more believable, and there's some extremely likable characters.
There's just one problem that I really can't accept, though: theirs is an extremely unhealthy relationship, and I can't really stand to watch it, thereby condoning it.
I'm not really sure anymore who started it - I think it was her - but there's emotional manipulation, emotional walls that are dropped and raised repeatedly, and what I consider to be emotional abuse.
Whether or not this is ever confronted or resolved, I don't know, and - frankly - given the apparent success of other things like Fifty Shades of Gross Grey, I seriously doubt it will be.

It's really a shame, and while I doubt one less device playing the show will count for anything, I'll have said my piece.
