Old Movies are the BEST

I don't know about you, but I think old movies are really cool.
Most of them. I mean, there's always The Monster That Challenged the World and The Creeping Terror. Those are understandably laughable.
But Psycho and The Rope? Those are downright terrifying. Probably not in the way horror movies now are, but they're still scary.
(For the record, I had no problems with showers after Psycho.)

But the other day, I rented The Manchurian Candidate.
Oh. My. Goodness.
That is easily one of the best movies I've ever seen. Like, THE best movies.
Older movies seem pretty easy to figure out, because nowadays, people equate "CGI effects" with "complexity of plot". Not always true, but not always untrue. And yeah, sometimes the effects in these movies are . . . well, horrifying (see the former examples), but because they didn't have much to work with, they had to be really skilled at what they did.

Case en point: Psycho.
Go watch that movie and tell me that the dialogue, cinematography, and viewers' POV wasn't masterfully manipulated. Yeah, there's a few rough spots, but considering the tech they had, it's actually really good.

Now go watch something like . . . I dunno, Battleship and compare the two on a critical level.
(I've never seen it, but I've gathered that this would aptly make the point.)

Now don't get me wrong: I will totally love a movie with explosions. The bigger the better. And there doesn't have to be a deep philosophical reason for it either.
Explosions are cool.
