I'm a product junkie.
I'm not nearly as bad as I was, but if I were to put just a bit of every hair product I own in my hair at once, I'd look like Gollum.
Yeah.
That being said, I feel like women are prone to polar ends of the cosmetic spectrum.
It seems it's either "Do not ever wear makeup and don't you dare cut your hair" or "No, my face isn't swollen, I've got 4 inches and 10 pounds of makeup on".
I am not saying this to hate on anyone's convictions.
If you feel it's permissible but not profitable for you to wear makeup and cut your hair, then that is absolutely fine.
If you wanna rock the natural look, you're very lucky.
But if you do choose to wear makeup - special occasions and Halloween aside - you may actually find that . . . well . . . less might be more.
I had to learn this too, and after I learnt it, a friend of mine confided in me that when she saw girls wear makeup the way I used to (she wasn't talking about me, I just applied it to me), that she always called it "hooker makeup".
She wasn't far off.
God does tell us to nurture the hidden person of the heart, and to not to focus on the external: the makeup, the hair, the clothes, and the jewelry. . .
. . . BUT!
He also tells us to clothe ourselves modestly, that the hair of a woman is her glory, and that the face conveys what is in the heart.
And - as I've often heard people say - there's nothing wrong with giving the barn a fresh coat of paint.
The point is to adorn ourselves in such a way that is pleasing to God, doesn't draw undue attention to ourselves, and value the character more than the appearance.
In the coming months, I'll be sharing what products I use to power wash and paint the barn, so to speak, so that you can not only reveal your God-given beauty to the fullest, but also be a good steward of your funds by not buying something that won't work for you.
It's a win-win.
