High Five for Friday

 photo H54Fbutton_zps973d26e1.png

1. My friend and I finally saw the encore screenings of the National Theatre Live's Frankenstein. It was the most beautiful, intense, emotionally traumatic, and amazing things I have ever seen. I think we legitimately would have died had we seen the stage production in person. It was that good.
2. I helped steer the nation Tuesday. And if you did your well-informed civic duty, you did too. Go us!
3. I no longer have Gandalf eyebrows, I have bangs, and while my hair isn't ginger, it's a beautiful burnt red, and I love it. Yay for playing your own cosmetologist! Well, except for the eyebrows and bangs. I don't trust myself with hot wax and scissors.
4. My mom and I watched Cats Don't Dance yesterday, and let me just say that I am extremely relieved I've never seen anyone dress up as Darla Dimple for Halloween. I would rather meet up with someone with a chainsaw. That girl is legitimately that terrifying, but then again, this is coming from someone who would rather meet up with a hungry shark than a curious octopus, so maybe I'm not the best judge of what should instill fear.
5. I've decided to move my blog from Blogger to WordPress. It'll look different, but I think in a good way. This is going to be an absolutely ginormous task for a plethora of reasons, so if it doesn't show up one day, not to panic... I'll be doing plenty of that myself. (Prayers are appreciated.)

High Five for Friday

1. I have fallen in love with First, Second, and Third John. Johns? I think John. I don't know. My degree in English didn't cover this. They're pretty short, and I almost wonder if they're one letter because the Second one ends sort of... oddly, but the publishers are the experts. They're a short, quick read, but soooo worth the time.
2. Winter fall cooler temperatures are here and my family is already laughing at me because I'm bundling up inside the house and shutting windows and doors. I'm so glad I'm such an abundant source of entertainment for my family. Maybe I should just become a comedienne and get paid for this...
3. I officially have bushier eyebrows than Gandalf. This is bad. Don't worry, this problem will be rectified tomorrow and I will have pretty female eyebrows instead of guybrows. This is good.
4. I'm also going half ginger Sunday. So. EXCITED.
5. My friend and I went out in search of the Land's End Light earlier this week after La Hacienda and Book of Life (aptly paired). I don't think we saw it (of course there'd be a speeding car with ONE headlight behind us), but my brother's coming home for the weekend with a friend, so if they go out, I'll probably go with them. With running shoes. And an empty bladder...

High Five for Friday

 photo H54Fbutton_zps973d26e1.png

1. I felt really clever this week. I've been working on a review page for a local salon and I had to use a ton of CSS3 coding which I'm not overly familiar with, but I think it looks pretty good! Know where I learned that? Tumblr. Ha!
2. Finally saw Guardians of the Galaxy with my dad. Pretty awesome movie. And then we had THE best Mexican afterwards. Oh yeah, and I almost got in the wrong car. It was dark, I wasn't used to my dad's new car, so I totally opened the door and pretty much stepped into the wrong car... #awkward.
3. Our pastor has begun a series on finances on Wednesday nights. This is good on so many levels. I was blessed enough to not have any student loans, but that doesn't mean I can go off the rails now.
4. I'll be pet sitting two of the most precious dogs and two adorable cats... let's just hope the allergy meds can kick in soon enough to keep me from sounding like a chain smoker...
5. I set a personal best running this week. Obviously I'm not Flash, but shaving minutes is a start.

High Five for Friday

 photo H54Fbutton_zps973d26e1.png

1. I've started a new job! It was a huge blessing, and it allows me time to work on my own projects, as I'm sure you've noticed the twofers I've started posting because I'm woefully behind.
2. Our Bible study is having a party tonight, and one of our leaders is going to make us play his games... This is where we learn how much we hate ourselves, because he brings these games that seem so hard and complicated and just messed up, but then when you figure it out you want to punch someone. But I love those games.
3. I'm going back to my college campus for the first time since May for an honor society induction ceremony. I'm eager to see some of my friends and professors again, but it'll be weird being able to leave and not be like "Oh, but I have a paper or exam next week". But I can get used to this.
4. I've made up my mind to go to the drive in and see The Giver and Guardians of the Galaxy. Nobody else will go with me, so I'm just going to have to be a big girl. I can do this.
5. I've been taking vitamins in hopes of growing my hair thicker and longer (I'll probably write a post about it at some point) and I got my hair trimmed on Wednesday. She was insanely impressed I was so excited it worked!

High Five for Friday

 photo H54Fbutton_zps973d26e1.png

Oooooooooooooooh my goodness, so much has happened! (That's why nothing has been published in time, sorry!)

1. My dad, my sister, and I went to Chicago for a few days. It was nothing like I expected it to be. Way more beautiful, much cleaner, and the weather was pretty great most of the time. Even the fog was cool, because you couldn't see the tops of buildings, though I'm sure that must be kinda creepy for people working or staying there. Still, very cool. Caught up with some old friends, too, which was awesome!
2. Classes started like two days ago. I'm not really sure how I feel about that. I didn't even know classes had started until a friend texted me about two professors she had. Definitely some mixed feelings. I mean, this is the first time in sixteen years that I'm not in school. It's an awesome feeling, but at the same time, I'm kind of wondering what to do with myself. I mean, I work, I leave the work at work, and I come home. No essays, no reading, no exams. Although I did just have my first flashback heart attack, I guess: I couldn't remember if I'd actually taken a final last semester. I did. Phew.
3. I've rediscovered the art of writing - which is good news for this blog...
4. ...and also the joy of reading. I haven't read for pleasure in what seems like years. (More on that coming soon.)
5. I've also been working out consistently and have lost about 5 pounds (that was before my sister brought us to a Chicago deep dish pizza place, you understand) and I'm actually a lot more content and happy with my body image than I have been in a long time, so there's always that.

High Five for Friday

 photo H54Fbutton_zps973d26e1.png

1. We've gotten a Parker's gas station in Beaufort. I know that seems incredibly mundane and just dumb, but hey, I can't remember the last time I paid $2.90 for a gallon of gas, so this is a big deal.
2. I've started running again and doing the bridge with my mom. I'd forgotten just how much I love it. And the awesome thing is that with the braces and ice packs I've been using, I haven't had a single issue with my shins, which is great, because if I get shinsplints again, I swear I'm going to scream.
3. I've seriously considered starting a political blog so that 1) I don't have to "bother" y'all with politics and 2) so that maybe that will grow into something else. But I know you just love reading my political posts, so maybe not.
4. I've rediscovered Pinterest. Enough said.
5. I got a workout in this morning chasing down my brother's derpy dog after he got out. Actually, I'm not sure why that's on the list...

High Five for Friday

 photo H54Fbutton_zps973d26e1.png

1. One of my best friends got married Saturday.
The wedding was beautiful, the bride was more beautiful.
They are going to have a lovely marriage, and I was so blessed to be her maid of honor.
2. We're having a party tonight at Bible study for those of us who graduated . . . which means it's basically a party for me.
I was asked if I preferred Lord of the Rings or Doctor Who. . . I'm still not sure what for.
Dun dun DUNNNNNN!
3. I've officially begun a new career in web development!
I'm so excited!
This is the first website I've done.
(Y'all local ladies have got to go there!)
4. Speaking of hair, my friend and I dyed my hair brown and red Saturday after the wedding.
I don't have any decent pictures yet, but I love it!
5. Maleficent comes out in a week! I'm really excited about it, but I have to admit that I was pretty disappointed when they seemed to reference "Wicked".
And if it follows the same plot, I'm going to be über disappointed. Call me a story snob or what have you, but that's the truth.

High Five for Friday

As y'all may or may not know, Lauren Elizabeth has a fantastic link-up in which you can share the best five things that have happened to you or that you've done in the past week.

1. I finally graduated Friday! It seemed so long in coming, but then BOOM there we were, walking across the stage. It was bittersweet, though, because . . .
2. I had one final final on Tuesday. I thought it was going to be horrible, but it was actually okay, because we had an extremely comprehensive study guide. And it was funny because beforehand the entire class was helping each other from one side of the room to another. All in all, I'm fairly certain we all got stellar marks.
3. I've been able to take a wee breather since graduation. That's definitely nice. But it's weird, because I actually want to get a job. Doing what, I don't know, but I want to be a useful member of society.
4. This is off topic-- wait . . . there is no topic. Perfect! I'm thinking of buying a stereo for my car. I want to be able to stop making CDs and just plug in my phone. You have no idea.
5. I haven't been working out as much as I wanted to, but guess what: I sprinted at 8.5 miles per hour. That was fun.

High Five for Friday

As y'all may or may not know, Lauren Elizabeth has a fantastic link-up in which you can share the best five things that have happened to you or that you've done in the past week.

1. My birthday was yesterday.
Yep. 22 years old.
Old fart, is me.
A friend and I saw Macbeth performed at our school, and iT WAS FANTASTIC.
Especially the Forest of Birnam. Best part of the whole play.
2. I'm going to the last day of bowling class today, then I'm bowling again tonight with some friends from church. . . This is either going to be very good or very bad for my arm.
And my game.
3. I've become lightly addicted to Marvel's Agents of SHIELD.
Aww man. Even if you don't really care for the whole spy thing, or the whole super hero thing, if you like decent characters being decent, you've gotta see it.
Literally 99% of the reason I watch it is Agent Coulson.
If you don't like Coulson, somebody needs to check your pulse.
4. Speaking of 'decent', I made a decent grade on an exam I thought I completely bombed.
I attribute that to the prayer, not necessarily my studying habit that particular week.
But hey, Who better to ask about a beach than the One who made the beach, so really.
5. I ran my fastest mile ever Wednesday.
It hurt like crazy (yay shinsplints), but I did it.
Now to just be able to sprint longer. . .
8 mph may not be fast for some of you human cheetahs out there, but it's a pretty good clip for me. Plus I'm short, so I already have to go faster because I lack stride.
Oh, and to be clear, I did NOT sprint the whole way . . . no way. Oh gosh I would have died.

High Five for Friday

As y'all may or may not know, Lauren Elizabeth has a fantastic link-up in which you can share the best five things that have happened to you or that you've done in the past week.

1. I actually did break 150 in bowling.
Just for the record.
I was quite tickled about it, actually.
2. I saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier with my dad.
Oh. My. Gosh.
Drop what you're doing, (watch the first one if you haven't seen it, and then The Avengers), and go see it.
It was fantastic, though eerily terrifying at the same time. If you're in any way involved in politics and if you lean conservative as I do, you'll see what I mean.
3. My entire body is sore from aerobics, but I've lost about 5 pounds in the past week because of it (and cleaning up my diet) so I'm not complaining . . . much. I still hurt all over. I had to ice my knees all day Wednesday, so. . .
4. Went to an award ceremony today: a friend and I were awarded English Major of the Year.
They said it was an across-the-board nomination for both of us.
5. Last and certainly not least, my younger brother will no longer be a Knob after Recognition Day tomorrow.
Mighty Mike, Marsh. Mighty Mike.

High Five for Friday

As y'all may or may not know, Lauren Elizabeth has a fantastic link-up in which you can share the best five things that have happened to you or that you've done in the past week.

1. It's the little things that get us through the week sometimes, and on Fridays I have bowling class.
Haha, yeah, it's an actual class. Like, I'm getting credit for it. Just one, but whatever.
I was proud to break 75 last week, so maybe today I'll break 150.
Hey, you never know.
2. I think we're having another game night at Bible study tonight, and the last time we did this . . . just wow.
I promise I'll make a post about this sometime.
3. I got to sleep in Thursday and today because of my new half-semester schedule.
Sleep is a precious thing, kids.
I know it sounds crazy now, but one day you will love taking naps.
4. Last Saturday (hey, it's still within a 7-day period), I sang with the University Chorus with the Duke Symphony Orchestra. It was a little scary, but pretty fun at the same time!
And yes, I wrote that article.
5. I've begun watching Pushing Daisies.
It just looks so precious and adorable, I really can't resist.
That, and it's got a really unique storyline. It's really very interesting.

High Five for Friday

As y'all may or may not know, Lauren Elizabeth has a fantastic link-up in which you can share the best five things that have happened to you or that you've done in the past week.

1. My friend Meredith and I dyed our respective hairs last night!
Hers became a beautiful chocolate.
She said I look like Lava Girl.
That should give you an idea.
And for the record, yes, my hair was supposed to be red.
2. This wasn't this week, but that week I ranted and raved about? It's over and done with.
Thank GOD.
And also, there were cupcakes.
3. My friend SJ and I went to Columbia yesterday to go "politicking".
I'm interning with Lee Bright's US Senate campaign, and there was a hearing on the Personhood bill he's sponsoring.
It was all really fascinating to see politics in motion, and the State House is just gorgeous.
That, and the two of us walked around staring at all the giant buildings like the country girls we are.
4. While I haven't done it yet, I'm just about to go buy some new running shoes. My ankle and knees have been killing me lately, and my running shoes I bought last year are sufficiently worn out.
It's kind of sad to see them go, but I get to break in new ones!
Oddly enough, I hate shoe shopping, but I'm really excited about this!
5. I got a job writing for Eat Sleep Play Beaufort!!
I have always wanted a job writing, and now I've got one!
(God's really too cool, y'know?)

High Five for Friday

As y'all may or may not know, Lauren Elizabeth has a fantastic link-up in which you can share the best five things that have happened to you or that you've done in the past week.

1. It's Valentine's Day . . . which means virtually nothing for single people except "Oh no I'm single what do I do?" . . . Um . . . the answer to that is eat candy, ice cream, and pizza, and go watch you a movie. I would personally suggest Chicken Little. That movie is so underrated.
2. It's also Friday, and since most of the couples that usually go to the Friday night Bible study are going to be out at dinner, the rest of us are having a game night. Someone said they'd bring this game that he'd never seen anyone here play, and knowing him, it's going to be hysterical.
Edit: it was hysterical at my expense. And the expense of others. More on that later.
3. I got to sleep in Thursday because morning classes were cancelled due to icy road conditions. I don't think it actually iced this time, but I'm not complaining.
4. I got sprinkles for my ice cream yesterday.
You have no idea how happy that made me.
(Spoiler, I'm actually 4.)
5. I read the most hysterical version of Little Red Riding Hood yesterday. I can't remember what it was called specifically or who wrote it, but it compared the wolf in the grandmother's nightgown to the MGM lion looking nothing like Calvin Coolidge, and then Little Red Riding Hood pulled out a gun and BANG let him have it.
Actually, there's like 4 versions where she pulls out a gun on the wolf. . .
It's pretty entertaining.

High Five for Friday

As y'all may or may not know, Lauren Elizabeth has a fantastic link-up in which you can share the best five things that have happened to you or that you've done in the past week.

1. I turned in my application for graduation!
It's a little scary, but it means I'm almost done!
2. I signed all the registration forms to present an essay at the Sigma Tau Delta Convention in February.
I don't like talking in front of big crowds, but I'm told it's literally like, a dozen to twenty people in the room. Apparently, they just sort of come and go because they run panels at the same time.
I am totally cool with that.
3. That Lana Del Rey song for Maleficent is out.
You have gotta hear it; it's so beautiful.
4. I'm going to be a Reaper tonight.
This basically requires running around in the woods.
At night.
With silly string.
Scaring people and dragging them back to jail.
I can handle this.
5. I got to drive my brother's Jeep to school today.
He's got one of those mega ones that sounds like a giant tiger on steroids when you turn it on.
Oh, it was glorious.

High Five for Friday

As y'all may or may not know, Lauren Elizabeth has a fantastic link-up in which you can share the best five things that have happened to you or that you've done in the past week.

1. Sherlock Series 3 ended Sunday.
. . .
Actually, I'm not sure that's a good thing. . .
2. My last semester of college has begun.
I graduate a week after my birthday and two weeks after that, I'll be in a wedding.
That's going to be incredibly fun - and busy, but mostly fun.
3. I dropped my phone onto the edge of the sidewalk yesterday, and I had thought I'd chipped the screen.
Turns out I hadn't.
Those tiny plastic screen protectors are definitely worth the money.
4. I refreshed my red hair this week . . . I could have wreaked havoc in the bathroom, but I didn't.
More on that later.
5. Yes, I am 21.
Yes, I am a responsible adult.
Yes, I like movies with explosions and battle and witty, clever banter.
Yes, I also watched Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses last night.
And it was awesome.

High Five for Friday

As y'all may or may not know, Lauren Elizabeth has a fantastic link-up in which you can share the best five things that have happened to you or that you've done in the past week.

For me, this is more than just a rushed diary entry: it's a way to count your blessings.
So.

1. There was a New Year's party with all the people from our Friday night Bible study.
It was a hysterical blast, though we were watching the Ball Drop online, and I think it was a minute late.
That was either because of the streaming or because we're just so ahead of the curve here in Beaufort.
. . . Probably the former.

2. I got my hair recolored.
I went over to a friend's house while another friend redyed my layers underneath.
It was fantastic fun that shan't be easily forgotten.
And we all danced to random music.
Certainly unforgettable, though I'm sure they wish they could forget mine.

3. I'm getting my senior pictures taken this afternoon.
All I really wanted was to update my Facebook picture because I don't have that awful blonde ombre look anymore, but then I realized that I could kill two birds with one stone.
The only downside is that it's about 30 degrees outside . . . but hey, at least I don't live somewhere where it feels like the surface of Mars, so I'm not complaining.
Too loudly, anyway.

4. I know, technically this hasn't happened yet, but I'm going shoe shopping tomorrow with a bride and the other bridesmaids.
I've never really been a huge fan of shopping, let alone shoe shopping, but I know this is going to be fun.
Thank God she's having us wear flats.

5. Last and definitely NOT least, Sherlock Series 3 premiered Sunday.
My friend and I about died.
Several times.
It was utterly incredible.
The only sad part is that it'll be over by the 12th.
Then, including the Christmas mini episode, Sherlock will boast a whole ten episodes.
We've hit the double digits.
We've arrived.
. . .
Curse you, BBC.
